If you drive a vehicle you will need auto insurance. It is both a legal obligation and a necessary piece of paperwork that will act as financial protection for you. The process of getting yourself a car insurance policy is relatively simple. It is not difficult to decide that which is the best? If you ask some relatives or friends for your task and visit the installation (with a keen observation of the material) of the recommended one or more companies. Further you clear that in case of any complaint how that company deals and how the guaranteed material and installation services are considered. If a customer for his all plumbing matters depends upon a company, of course the company would be sympathetic to the customer and fulfill all his requirements well in time at appropriate rates.

If you are residing in such area which is not so developed, no such company is still there to serve you completely and there are material selling and installation services separately. You should adopt another policy i.e. if you buy the material first, you should try to involve the shopkeeper with your installation and repairing services.
You should clear him that you would attain the same services which would be recommended by him.

If you consult plumbing services first, you should involve the owner with your material buying issue. In both cases you should make sure that the former takes the responsibility of the good services of the later. In such areas this policy would be useful as the shopkeepers have to increase the number of their customers by different ways.

Benefits:

If buying, installation and repairing services are from the same company, the plumber is very well familiar to the material (pipes, supporting devices and taps, valves, showers etc). Due to making the installation of the same material again and again, the plumber is able to install the material properly/professionally.

If after the installation any plumbing problem is there with regard to pipes, supporting devices, taps, basin etc. the plumber would be easy to understand the problem perfectly instead of the plumber who did not install your plumbing. Of course the replacement and repairs would be made efficiently. If the plumber of your company has a call by you that a problem is there in drainage/sewerage, the plumber is able to understand the reason even prior to visit the site and he would take a little time to solve the same.

Plumbing P-Traps Safety

01313012907_plumbing.jpgI’m not writing this article to sell you something or make money other than through Bukisa which as you know takes a thousand hits to get around four bucks.

Please read this article and pay attention to the International plumbing code information I will give you about p-traps.

Home owners love to mess around with their plastic plumbing pipes under kitchen sinks, lavatories, and others. Also many handy men and Mr. fix-it do not know plumbing code because if they did I would not be writing this article.

The picture below is a typical plastic homeowners p-trap. By not having a p-trap installed properly you can release methane gas under the sink which is extremely flammable and will cause an explosion. It will kill you by asphyxiation if it leaks into an enclosed space and deprives you of oxygen.

The Plumbing code has vary specific requirements of how a p-trap can be installed. I will attempt to explain the key points of p-trap installalations especially if your changing how the pipes where installed orginally. If you only replace the pipes with the same exact same pipes and do not make any changes you do not have to worry about causing any plumbing code violations.

Key points from chapter 10 of the International Plumbing Code: 1st:The vertical distance from the fixture outlet to the trap weir shall not exceed 24 inches and the horizontal distance shall not exceed 30 inches. 2nd; code violation I see the most often is each fixture trap shall have a liquid seal of not less than 2 inches and not more than 4 inches, or deeper for special designs relating to accessible fixtures. See pictures of both major plumbing code violations.

Its hard to see the picture clearly but the picture on the right is the first common plumbing code violation. The picture on the left is the second plumbing common code violation.

The reason for these distances is because testing was done years ago by engineering and government organizations to insure the publics safety. By exceeding these dimensions you will lose your trap seal therby causing methane gas to be released under your sink and up and out your sink.

When soldering brass trap fittings or using any type of fittings designed for p-traps you must maintain the distance of 2-4 inches between the weir and the bottom of the pipe discharge.

See a few pictures of some crazy plumbing installations that are not uncommon when you have Mr. fix it install pipes.
Picture shows a p-trap between to sinks. The sink on the right would not be traped.

This picture shows a p-trap on its side with numerous plumbing code violations.

An angle s-trap.

The plumbing code for cloths-washers is the exception. Standpipes can be a minimum of 18 inches and a maximum of 42 inches above the trap weir.

There are other important p-trap plumbing code requirements for example; A trap shall be larger than the drainage pipe into which the trap dischrages, building (house) traps shall be prohibited, except where local conditions necessitate such traps, p-traps shall be set level with respect to the trap seal and, where necessary, shall be protected from freezing.

Remember, when you replace your old worn out p-trap and piping under a sink just make sure you put all the new parts back in the way they were taken out.

Good luck and happy plumbing.
